Meet Yuri
Nine years ago, I was fortunate enough to win a Green Card, and in 2017, my wife and I immigrated from Minsk, Belarus, to the United States. We spent four years living in San Diego, California. Our first year in the U.S. was incredibly challenging, but we made it through. I can say with absolute certainty that immigration, even with a Green Card, is not for everyone. After a year spent working in delivery and as a mover, I landed a job as an installer for an HVAC company. Just imagine being in an attic. The temperature keeps climbing, 80, 90, 100, 110 degrees. On top of that, you have to install ductwork without falling through the ceiling, all while surrounded by darkness and fiberglass insulation. HVAC work in sunny California is no joke. Always offer the crew a cold drink on a hot day. I am still doing this work today. In fact, I may have even visited some of your homes if you have ever had issues with your air conditioning system. Four years later, in 2021, at my suggestion, we moved to Washington State. By the way, Belarus is a small but proud country located in the heart of Europe, bordering Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia. In 2024, our family officially became Americans. And as it turned out, that was when our lives truly began to change.
